Collaboration For Community
NOCORA is a non-profit collaborative of outdoor recreation interests working to protect and develop the world class outdoor recreation amenities of Northern Colorado.
Why?
Outdoor recreation is more than playing outside, it’s where we are at our best! Research and experience has helped us understand the true benefits of outdoor recreation, such as:
Physical health - Outdoor spaces provide the best places to maintain and improve our physical selves.
Mental well-being - Time outside makes us happier and reduces anxiety and depression.
Connection to the natural world - The outdoors is grounding. We better understand the environment that sustains us and more likely to protect it when we spend time outside.
Economic development - Our economy is built on outdoor recreation which is one of the top 10 industries in the state of Colorado.
Community development - Outdoor recreation is the common thread that holds our community together and unites people from all demographics.
How?
NOCORA is comprised of an outdoor recreation council which includes representation from across the outdoor recreation spectrum. From hunters to anglers, climbers to skiers, hikers to bikers, equestrians to power boaters, well, you get it, all who care about outdoor recreation. This council meets quarterly to discuss and collaborate on issues in our natural spaces like outdoor infrastructure, planning, visitor use management, fundraising and so much more. The council’s recommendations are then shared with the executive board of NOCORA via the executive director. The EB and ED serve as the decision making body. They determine how to prioritize and work with community stakeholders, business owners, elected officials, and land managers to implement council recommendations. NOCORA is not a land agency and does not have decision making authority in our natural spaces, but seeks to work with our land managers to collaborate for the collective good.
Our Impact
Ultimately, we hope our work is meaningful in the following areas of outdoor recreation planning:
Regional and agency planning processes - When cities, counties, parks and natural areas organizations are conducting planning exercises, we want to be engaged.
Infrastructure - Outdoor recreation infrastructure is the unheralded glue that holds this industry together. We hope to improve maintenance and creation of outdoor recreation infrastructure.
Visitor use management - Our population loves outdoor recreation. We hope our collective voice can resolve visitor use conflict and contribute to planning that protects and improves all outdoor recreationists’ experience.
Fundraising - We hope our work facilities the flow of resources that contributes to our outdoor recreation ecosystem.
